Prom Tips : Care and Alterations

Pre-Prom Garment Care

After alterations have been done, let the dress hang out of the bag after it has been steamed to keep it from wrinkling. Put all alcohol based products (hairspray, lotions, perfume, etc.) on you before you put your dress on as they may cause discoloration.

Post-Prom Garment Care

After wearing your dress it should be cleaned according to the instructions on the dress label. It is best to store a gown that has beading lying flat like a sweater. Due to the heavy beading the dress may sag if left hanging. Due to the nature of the garment, beaded gowns may “shed” beads as they are worn. Schaffer’s will re-bead any full-price garment at no charge for the life of the garment.

Alterations

On the day you find your perfect dress, assess to see what alterations need to be done and get them done as soon as possible. Alterations are not included in the price of the dress and are made at an additional charge. An average price for alterations on special occasion gowns may range from $40 – $150.

First Fitting

For your first fitting it is absolutely necessary to have the shoes you will be wearing in your dress as well as any undergarments you are planning on wearing under the dress. Please anticipate a minimum of two fittings, plus a pick-up for your prom dress.

Measurements

If you need measurements taken, they are best taken in your undergarments. Measurements are generally taken when you special order a dress with-out trying it on.
